Sambutan Megawati Soekarnoputri

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great honour for me to address this honourable event for the first opening of   DR. IR. Soekarno’s statue. On behalf of the Soekarno’s family, I would like to extend our most sincere greetings to all of you, and our honest appreciation to Madame Tussauds, and the authority of tourism of the Kingdom Thailand, which  initiate the creation of the Soekarno’s statue to be placed in this admirable venue.

Distinguish Ladies, and Gentlemen,
Soekarno is a symbol of struggle for emancipation of nations. He is very close to his people, who call him “Bung” Karno. “Bung” is a very friendly and warm expression to call a close friend.
Bung Karno has a very tight friendship with the royal family of Thailand, especially through His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the Queen Sirikit Kitiyakara. Their friendship was not merely established based on governmental matters, but sincerely regarded as family. The long time relationship between Indonesia and the Kingdom of Thailand was started by a visit of the Majesty King Chulalongkorn or better known as Rama V, on March 28, 1871, where His Majesty giving a memento in the form of an elephant statue which  until today is placed in the National Museum.
The present of the elephant statue is so meaningful, therefore the National Museum, which is the eldest and largest museum in Indonesia, is known as Elephant Museum (Museum Gajah).

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We sincerely believe that this statue is not only dedicated for the memory of Bung Karno himself, but also of his beloved nation, Indonesia, and most of all, of humanity for what he had dedicated his entire life.

We do hope that many people will come to visit this museum and see not only the statue but to be inspired by the wisdom and visions of the Great Bung Karno, especially in developing the world a new as he delivered in front of the UN General Assembly in 1960. As we might all know, Bung Karno has a great idea in developing a new world order where justice and peace are prevailed and be above everything.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Bung Karno was not only considered as our Proclamator, and one of the founding fathers of Indonesia. Beyond that, Bung Karno had successfully raised the solidarity amongst countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America through the Asian-African Conference held in Bandung in 1955.
Furthermore, Bung Karno fought tenaciously to form the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which played important role in the history of International Politics.
Distinguished guests,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Those are some things conveyed from the great ideas of Bung Karno. For Indonesia, Bung Karno has established the solid foundation for country, Pancasila, which was cultivated from our own culture and history, its genuine and suitable for our nation. The basic five  principles of Pancasila — Nationality;  Humanity; Deliberation/consensus democracy; Social Welfare, and Belief in God — are not only considered as the root of our nation, but also unite the whole diversity of the nation to achieve our national goals, and become the way of Indonesian life.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Once again, I wish to extend my profound thanks to Madame Tussauds and the authority of tourism of the Kingdom of Thailand. Your gracious hospitality of this event are higly appreciated.
This statue is so admirable, and we wish the same thing can be presented in other Madame Tussauds museum around the world.
Hopefully the existence of this fine art will awaken the inspiration for a struggle to build a new world order which is full of justice and friendship among nations……filled with peace and prosperity.
May God bless you and bless us all over the world. Thank you
